Street Cleaning

"Hmm. What do suppose *that* thing is used for, Daddy?"

Sale

It seems like everytime I happen to go to the big city, everything is "on sale". And that's not even a German word. But everything that's written in English is cooler and - more sales-oriented - than German. That's what salespeople in Germany think. It seems.

German Beer

Werner Pilsner

We live in the best of both worlds here in Zeilitzheim: Beer and Wine. Located conveniently on the fringe of traditional wine-growing and beer-brewing regions we get both. Okay, the picture does not reflect a local beer but that of a friend of mine who runs a Gasthaus north of Schweinfurt.

German Food

"We Germans" love light, mediterranean food. And the American in me loves to spice it all up with hot sauce and home-grown green chilis and throw in some corn on the cob. Here an impression from a recent family meal at home:

Dinner

But seriously: we are experiencing quite a trend toward light Italian food here in Germany. Hardly a wedding, where we don't serve a big spread of antipasti and also Italian dishes on the entrée side of things. I am personally a big fan of eating locally, whenever I travel. But having spent the past 11 years here in rural Germany, not having had much opportunity to travel (except to Hungary), we have to improvise and bring the foods of the world back into the house.

Guten Appetit!

The Military - again

Somebody actaully contacted me via chat through this blog and seemed a bit miffed that I make fun at people desiring to become Army Watercraft Operators in an earlier post. She asked if she could receive the contact information for an application... To set the record straight: I had no intention of ridiculing military watercraft operators of any kind. I have high regard for anyone serving the country in any way. I just thought it weird to be contacted about a job so far from my own job description. I told her so and forwarded the orginal e-mail so she could apply (I wish her luck).

Just slightly off-topic but still somewhat fitting:
